The Crisis
Behind Every Animal Is a Story โ And a System That's Failing Them
Thousands of animals in Rhode Island are surrendered, abandoned, or in desperate need of care every year โ waiting in overcrowded shelters with nowhere else to go. With your investment, we break that cycle for good.
6,000โ7,000 animals annually in RI
Overcrowded Shelters
Rhode Island shelters take in roughly 6,000โ7,000 animals per year (2,500โ3,000 dogs and 3,000โ3,500 cats). The RI SPCA alone handles ~1,200 animals annually, with owner surrenders representing 30โ60% of intake. Shelters are severely overcrowded and underfunded.
Avg. emergency visit: $1,500โ$5,000+
Vet Care Is Unaffordable
The cost of veterinary care has skyrocketed, forcing heartbreaking decisions. There is no full-service, affordable clinic in RI dedicated to underserved communities.
Reptiles, birds, fish โ nowhere to go
Exotic Pets Are Ignored
Most shelters only take dogs and cats. Birds, reptiles, fish, and small mammals have almost no rescue options in the state.
2,000โ3,500 owner surrenders annually
Surrenders Are Rising
Owner surrenders represent 30โ60% of total shelter intake, translating to roughly 2,000โ3,500 dogs and cats surrendered annually in Rhode Island. Since 2022, shelters report surging surrender requests due to housing pressures and financial hardship. Many owners love their pets but cannot afford care.
Low-cost spay/neuter is nearly impossible to find
Overpopulation Crisis
Without accessible spay & neuter services, the cycle of overpopulation continues unchecked. PCF will offer affordable spay/neuter as a core program โ stopping the crisis at its source.
Few affordable rehab options for animals
Rehab Access Is Limited & Costly
While some rehab services exist in RI, they are costly and not integrated with rescue. PCF's on-site rehab suite makes recovery accessible for animals who need it most โ regardless of their owner's income.
Your Investment Changes This
One facility. Every species. Real impact.
Without affordable care, animals suffer. Without a rescue network for all species, thousands are left behind. PCF will have the space, staff, and resources to take in animals others can't โ and give every single one the chance they deserve.
Not just a check. A legacy.
